Morphometric Analysis of the Proximal Femur in H. sapiens, H. neanderthalensis and H. heidelbergensis (Duration: 2011-2014)

Taxonomic, Eco-morphological and Biomechanical Considerations

Duration: 2011 – 2014

Abstract: In this project we aim to identify and interpret, through the study of the shape of proximal femur in skeletal samples of H. sapiensH. neanderthalensis and H. heidelbergensis, some of the properties of the complex relationships between these groups, focusing their phenetic associations e correlating the shape of the proximal femur with eco-morphological and biomechanical features. The possible reconnaissance of apomorphic traits with the objective of characterize paleospecies, as well as the identification of environmental and biomechanical features, makes it useful to explore alternative analytical methodologies in paleoanthropology, such as Geometric Morphometrics.
