Tiago Mesquita holds a degree in Geography and a Master’s in Human Geography, Planning and Healthy Territories. He is currently working on his Doctoral Thesis, titled “Energy poverty vulnerability in Portugal and its influence on the mental health and well-being of the population.” His research employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating both qualitative and quantitative data to provide a comprehensive analysis. His work consistently incorporates a geographical perspective, linking territorial factors with health outcomes and examining the socioeconomic determinants of health.
His research is particularly focused on how energy poverty—defined as the inability to afford adequate heating, cooling, and electricity—affects the mental health and overall well-being of individuals in Portugal. By studying various socio-economic determinants, his work aims to uncover the underlying causes of energy poverty and its wide-ranging impacts on different demographic groups. His findings are expected to contribute valuable insights for policymakers seeking to mitigate the effects of energy poverty and improve public health.
Tiago Mesquita has held fellowship positions at both the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and Maastricht University (The Netherlands). His academic background and research experience highlight his commitment to understanding and addressing complex issues at the intersection of geography, socioeconomics, and public health.
