Antropologias do Mundo is a book series in the field of anthropology and the social sciences published by Coimbra University Press under the scientific supervision of ABA — Brazilian Association of Anthropology (Brazil) and CIAS — Research Centre for Anthropology and Health, University of Coimbra (Portugal). The series brings together classic and contemporary texts in Portuguese, including Portuguese language translations of texts originally written in other languages, with the aim of promoting the expansion of the geographic and theoretical horizons of the field of anthropology and the social sciences in the lusophone world. The main purpose of the series is to celebrate the richness and the diversity of the anthropological tradition, contributing to a more pluralized understanding of the history of anthropological thought and its multiple theoretical and ethnographic traditions. The series responds to the challenge posed by recent discussions around the notion of “world anthropologies,” challenging the dominance of metropolitan anthropological traditions and calling for a more plural and international vision of the discipline and its theoretical contributions. What is at stake is the creation of a new understanding of the discipline that is both more heterogeneous and more aware of the social, epistemological and political conditions of its own production. This view of anthropology opens the way for a more reflexive and heteroglossic paradigm of knowledge production that is more attuned to the complexities of the current era of digital globalization and geopolitical multipolarity.
