Rodrigo Toniol is Full Professor of Cultural Anthropology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a permanent faculty member of its Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology. He is an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, a CNPq Research Fellow, and a FAPERJ “Young Scientist of Our State.” His research focuses on religion, politics, and health, with an emphasis on religious materialities and contemporary anthropological theory. During his stay at CIAS, he will advance his research on religious materialities in urban contexts, particularly regarding the transformation of public spaces and their implications for regimes of religious visibility in Brazil. The goal is to deepen dialogue with Portuguese and international scholars on the circulation, heritagization, and symbolic disputes surrounding the sacred.
