Liliana Matias de Carvalho holds a Master’s degree in Human Evolution and Biology from the University of Coimbra, which she completed in 2013. She also obtained a degree in Archeology and History from the University of Lisbon in 2007. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Coimbra and working as a Researcher at the Center for Research in Anthropology and Health. She serves as the scientific director for Biological Anthropology in various archaeological excavation projects that cater to both business and research purposes. Among these projects, she is the Principal Investigator for Biological Anthropology in three of them, including her doctoral research project.

Her main areas of work include social sciences and biology, with a special focus on biological anthropology, archaeology, and history. She has a keen interest in dental anthropology, stress studies in ancient osteological material, and the history of medicine. Additionally, she is an external evaluator at A3Es and holds the position of union leader (vice-president) at the Archeology Workers Union. She is a member of several scientific and professional associations.
