Kehui Deng holds an MA in Sinology from the University of Freiburg, Germany (2023). Her MA thesis, titled “Depiction, Marginalization, and Neoliberal Dynamics: Constructed Subjectivity of Dagongmei in State Media,” applied the frameworks of neoliberalism and the “suzhi” discourse to analyze how young female migrant workers are portrayed in Chinese state media.

Kehui is currently pursuing a PhD in Anthropology at the University of Coimbra. Her doctoral research focuses on care practices in rural China in the context of large-scale rural-to-urban labor migration.
