Huiyi HUANG is an anthropologist and documentary filmmaker. She is also a Research Assistant at the Sci-Tech Asia International Research Network. She conducted an oral history project about Chinese rural midwives. Currently, Huiyi is working on a short documentary film about Chinese midwives working in rural areas. The film aims to give voice to midwives’ working lives and experiences and recognizes their contribution to society. Moreover, it tries to deliver a message that midwife-led practice may be a source of inspiration for new developments that counter the current trend towards the excessive medicalization of birth.
