Graduated in Biology in 2013 from the University of Salamanca, with a master’s degree in Evolution and Human Biology (2015), a postgraduate degree in Forensic Anthropology (2016) and a PhD in Biological Anthropology (2022) at the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Coimbra, I have experience in the analysis of bone tissue biology, focusing my work in the field of Paleopathology. The main scope of my research targets fetal, infant, and juvenile human remains, with special interest in the pathophysiological differentiation of subperiosteal new bone and extracortical porosity. I combine these approaches with historical and biocultural sources, together with complementary, innovative, and non-destructive laboratory techniques: Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), etc. My predilection for metabolic bone diseases and their synergistic, antagonistic and cyclic connections with infections and traumas has motivated other parallel studies: paleodietes, paleoparasitology and dental calculus analysis.
