Ana Maria Silva has a degree in Biology from the University of Coimbra (1992), a PhD in Anthropology (2002) and Habilitation (Tenure Exam, 2019) from the same University. She joined the teaching career as Assistant in 1993.

To date, she published 64 ISI articles, 13 international peer-reviewed articles, 11 international book chapters, 10 national book chapters and 21 articles in national peer-review journals. In 2011, she created the Prehistory Laboratory (CIAS), and in 2016, she started the Modern Dental Cast Reference Collection.

Throughout her career she has coordinated or participated in several international research projects, including one Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship, Mobility, Subsistence Patterns and Kinship from the Late Neolithic until the Iron Age in Southwest Iberia (International cooperation between Portugal and Germany; 2021/22), and member of Cost Action 19131: Europe through Textiles: Network for an Integrated and Interdisciplinary Humanities (2020/24). Its scientific activity also includes Scientific Consultancy in research projects, to public entities (Museums and Municipal Councils) and private entities (Archaeology companies), exhibitions and anthropological excavations. Her teaching activity includes several curricular units as, Primatology, Dental and Funerary Anthropology, workshops and advanced courses. The completed orientations include 5 PhDs, 38 Masters and 26 Graduate Theses.
