Carina Marques has received her PhD in Biological Anthropology, from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Anthropology, The University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley, Texas, USA. She is also a Researcher at the Research Centre for Anthropology and Health (CIAS) and collaborator at the Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology, Center for Functional Ecology (CEF), University of Coimbra, Portugal. She is currently member of the Board of Directors (Director-at-Large II) of the Paleopathology Association, USA. Her areas of interest encompass skeletal biology, bioarchaeology, paleopathology, paleoepidemiology, and forensic anthropology. Her research focuses on a biocultural, evolutionary, and diachronic approaches to health and disease, with emphasis in methodological, theoretical, and epistemological approaches to the study of neoplastic diseases. She has participated in several international research projects related with skeletal pathology and health.
