Ana Rita A. Sampaio

Archaeologist and biological anthropologist. I completed my undergraduate degree in Archaeology and my master’s degree in Biological Anthropology (Master’s in Human Evolution and Biology) at the University of Coimbra. In my dissertation I studied a pathological condition that affects the synovial joints of the body – osteochondritis dissecans – by analyzing the skeletal remains of the individuals belonging to the Coimbra Identified Skeletal Collection. This study proved to be a valuable addition to the current knowledge of paleopathology regarding this condition and my hopes are to keep conducting research on this topic.
