A century later, the construction of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) brought to light thousands of burials from the extensive Phaleron cemetery. In order for the SNFCC to be completed, large-scale excavations took place between 2012 and 2016 by the Ephorate of Piraeus and Islands (Greek Ministry of Culture) under the direction of Dr. Stella Chryssoulaki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2015, an international collaborative project was established for the contextualized bioarchaeological analysis and interpretation of the Phaleron cemetery and a specialized team of bioarchaeologists, forensic anthropologists, archaeologists, and historians were assembled for this purpose. The Phaleron Bioarchaeological Project is taking place at the Malcolm H.
