Raquel Granja is graduated in Biology since 2001 (University of Évora), with a specialization in Biological Anthropology. This specialization was taken through the study of the Medieval human remains unearthed from the Monastery of Flor da Rosa (Alentejo, Portugal) and participation in several archaeological excavations and workshops of Biological Anthropology. Later, in 2004, she took a post-graduation in Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (Institute of Legal Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon) followed by a Master degree in Archaeology (University of Algarve in 2014), where she discussed the methodological issues of sex estimation in collective necropolis using the human remains from the Neolithic Bom Santo Cave (Estremadura, Portugal). In 2019, she started her PhD in Biological Anthropology (University of Coimbra), where she will study the human remains from Escoural Cave, a Neolithic necropolis from Alentejo (Portugal), with a grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FST, Portugal, SFRH/BD/146991/2019). Before her PhD, she worked as bioanthropologist in archaeological excavations, of pre-historic and historical sites, and also participated in the project “Bom Santo cave and the Neolithic societies of Portuguese Estremadura, 6th-4th millennia BC”, with António Faustino de Carvalho as PI (FST reference: PTDC/HIS-ARQ/098633/2008).
