Bachelor’s degree in History, Master’s in Archaeology, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Seville. He served as a predoctoral fellow in the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology at the University of Seville and conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute of Archaeology in Merida (CSIC). Currently, he is a faculty member in the Department of Historical Sciences at the University of Malaga.

His research career has focused on the analysis of human settlement in the SW of the Iberian Peninsula between Antiquity and the Middle Ages from Landscape Archaeology, with special attention to the development of new interpretative approaches. For the latter, he has been trained in fields such as thermodynamics and the niche construction theory. This has allowed him to understand these problems from an energetic and ecological point of view, focusing not only on the historical evolution of settlement networks in the territories of western Andalusia and southern Extremadura, but also on the interaction of these dynamics with the evolution of the predominant economic strategies and other non-biotic factors such as the paleoclimate.
