EARLY ENDS OF LIFE: Paleopathological (macroscopic, microscopic, and documentary) study of infant causes of death with special interest in extracortical porosity (Duration: 2016-2020)

Duration: 2016-2020

Abstract: This research project aims to contribute to the child figure in a multidisciplinary way, using macro and microscopic osteological approaches to look for structural differences between the subperiosteal new bone formation and the extracortical porosity to distinguish between normal and pathological bone growth. Also, this study presents an introductory chapter describing the fetal, infant, and juvenile historiographical knowledge in Europe and, particularly, in Portugal and Spain.
