The European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide public event, which displays the diversity of science and its impact on citizens’ daily lives in fun, inspiring ways.
This year, the event took place in 29 countries on Friday 24 September 2021.
The European Researchers’ Night aims to:
- bring research and researchers closer to the public
- promote excellent research projects across Europe and beyond
- increase the interest of young people in science and research careers
- showcase the impact of researchers’ work on people’s daily lives
Those that participated in the event, had the opportunity to meet researchers and discover the fascinating world of science in a fun and interactive environment.
In Coimbra, the local program of the European Researchers’ Night 2021, was coordinated by the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra. The event included online and local activities inspired by the general theme Science for the Climate. The program had 47 activities on the theme of this edition of the NEI in line with the European Ecological Pact. There was also a space for the European Corner and 4 Speed Dating activities (more information HERE).
CIAS participated with a science demonstration, where children and adults had the opportunity to learn more about the various methods to determine the sex, age at death, height and paleopathologies of the deceased. Participants included graduated and PhD students, researchers and professors, namely: Beatriz Bizarro, Álvaro Monge Calleja, Daniela Rodrigues, Maria João Neves, Francisco Curate and Ana Maria Silva.
