Human Biology, Health & Society – 25 years of CIAS

The 3rd cycle of conferences celebrating the 25 years of CIAS took place last Friday, on the 15th of November, in the Department of Life Sciences. The third session was lead by the Human Biology, Health and Society Group.

The session started with the communication Why do we get fat? presented by Professor John Speakman (Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Aberdeen, UK).

The second communication – Controlar a Obesidade – causa perdida?-was given by Pedro Graça (Dean Faculty of Nutrion and Food Sciences – University of Porto).

The third and fourth presentations were given by two CIAS’ researchers: Diogo Costa and Helena Nogueira: Desigualdades na saúde mental das crianças: resultados do projeto de 2016 ObesInCrisis and Alimentação, prática desportiva e obesidade infantil em contexto(s) de vulnerabilidade.

The session was also marked by the opening of the photograpic exhibition Vale da Gafaria (Lagos): os vestígios esqueléticos e arqueológicos das primeiras vítimas do tráfico negreiro português: memória fotográfica dos dez anos da escavação organized by Maria João Neves and Teresa Fernandes.
