Genes Populations and Disease – 25 years of CIAS

The 2nd cycle of conferences celebrating the 25 years of CIAS took place yesterday, on the 07th of November, in the Department of Life Sciences. The second session was assigned to the Genes, Populations and Disease Group.

The first conference – A utilização da tecnologia de sequenciação de nova geração no estudo da susceptibilidade à obesidadewas presented by David Albuquerque (CIAS).

Teresa Fidalgo (CIAS) and Celeste Bento (CIAS) presented their work –Hemostase molecular and Anemias congénitas, respectivelywhich has been developed in the Coimbra University Hospital Centre (CHUC). Both presentations reflected the value of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in the diagnosis of congenital hematologic diseases.

The last conference – The diagnostic approach of congenital hemolytic anemias was presented by the Italian researcher, Paola Bianchi, from the IRCCS foundation Ca ‘Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan.
